John Tobin (Tenor)

Born: Early 1940's - England

The English tenor, John Tobin, was not a professional singer but a teacher (probably of languages) at Wandsworth School which at the time had a very fine boys' choir (under Russell Burgess), which attracted the attention of Benjamin Britten and for which he wrote at least one work (Children's Crusade?). This John Tobin (born early 1940’s) sang the minor role of 'servant' in St John Passion (BWV 245). He should not be confused with John Tobin, who was conductor, musicologist and composer.
